Stefanos Tsitsipas is qualified to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. As a matter of fact, he is the first ever Greek tennis player in tennis’s history, who is playing in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.
His last win was against Roberto Bautista Agut with 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) and he was the first player of the tournament to get qualified to the semi-finals of this year’s Australian Open.
“Stef” is rewriting history when it comes to Greek tennis, but the tournament itself, since he’s the youngest tennis player to play in the semi-finals, since Andy Roddick in 2003. This Thursday, Tsitsipas will try to get his golden ticket to the finals against either Rafael Nadal or Frances Tiafoe.
It was a difficult match and it couldn’t be anything else, especially on a high-level tournament like the Australian Open and against such a good tennis player as Bautista Augut. The Spanish tennis player was ahead with a 4-2, but Tsitsipas had 2 breaks in the next games, who eventually won 5 out of 6 last games of the set and won with 7-5.
However, Augut kept on playing with the same style and confidence during the 2nd set. He was found ahead again with a break and managed to win the game with 6-4. During the 3rd break the Spanish tennis player was found ahead with 4-2, but Tsitsipas remained calm and managed to get back 4 games in a row and won the 3rd set with 6-4.
Tsitsipas’s strength didn’t prove him wrong, since he didn’t let his opponent have a break point and during the 12th game he lost a match point and finally Tsitsipas did his winning 7-2.
